Somali Health Summit focused on finding better ways to address disparities and closing the gaps

First Annual Somali Health Summit addressed disparities and focused on problems faced by Somali community in Minnesota.

The Somali Medical Association of America (SMAA) hosted the first Annual Somali Health Summit today, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Doctors and health professionals put a focus on identifying health issues and health challenges faced by Somali American in Minnesota.

Deputy Minister of Health of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hon. Mohamed Said Abdullahi was the keynote speaker. Dr. Osman A. Harare who is a well-known and a long term Somali doctor was awarded a lifetime achievement award. Dr. Douglas J. Pryce who is an assistant professor of medicine at University of Minnesota Medical School was awarded dedication to community service award at the health summit.

The summit which was well attended brought together medical professionals, community health workers, Muslim scholars, students as well as community members.
